Princess Cruise Line (owned by Carnival Corp) announced the sale of two older ships: Sun Princess and Sea Princess. This decision comes during the Covid-19 pandemic while cruise lines are trying to cut costs.

Although the sale came quicker than most expected, I believe the decision to sell Sun and Sea in the near future was made before Covid as Princess updates it’s fleet to newer ships with better accommodations, more options, and newer technology. Read the announcement below.

Princess Cruise Line has announced the sale of two ships, Sun Princess and Sea Princess. Sun Princess and Sea Princess contributed to significant growth in Australian cruising. Both ships defined the premium cruise experience with Australians and New Zealanders spending close to 14 million nights aboard these ships. While it is never easy to say goodbye to any ship in our fleet, this will allow us to deploy newer ships enhancing our offerings for Australia cruisers and focus on bringing into service exciting new builds like the upcoming delivery of Enchanted Princess.

Of course, taking these two ships out of service means their scheduled cruises have been canceled as follows:

  • Sun Princess sailings from December 28, 2020 through August 14, 2021
  • Sea Princess sailings from December 23, 2020 through November 9, 2021

Guests booked on these cruises will automatically receive 100% of the cruise fare paid plus an additional 25% of cruise fare paid as future cruise credit to be booked by May 1, 2022. Guests may also choose to receive a refund by contacting Princess and filling out a form online before October 31, 2020.

If you were scheduled to be on Sea or Sun and have questions, would like to rebook your next cruise, or simply want unbiased advice and information, use the contact form or call Joel at 844-483-6669.
